What's up with Asian horror and eyes?

There's all these Asian movies I've seen and sometimes when something scary happens it has to do with a bunch of eyes staring at them. In one, there were eyes all over a villain's wings and then in another there was blood moving along the ground and there were thousands of eyes (not eye, but eyes) in it. Is there something in their history or folklore? I'm just really curious so that I can understand it.
